Franklin HoustonKathleen McDonagh Enjoy a lively evening of folk dancing this week DJ'd by Franklin Houston. Franklin will be assisted by Kathleen McDonagh.
Michel_BregerStephanie AndersonTeaching: In this first week of our 6-week Couples Dance 101 Series, Michel Breger and Stephanie Anderson will teach One-Step and Waltz, focusing on partnering skills to make the dances smooth and the turning enjoyable.

Friday, January 19, 7-9:45 pm.
The admission fee is $5 for those 18 and older.

There is no fee for those under 18,
but they must be supervised by a designated person 18 or older.

AIFD is organized exclusively for educational purposes, including the promotion and teaching of traditional folk dance, music and crafts native to a variety of countries.

Couples Dance 101 Series

Feel comfortable and enjoy dancing with a partner!

Starting THIS WEEK - Friday, January 19, 2018, 7-8pm, our regular teaching will include a 6-week series on dances for couples. Starting with couple-dance basics and continuing with dances such as the Waltz, Polka and Two-Steps. Special dance tips will be included to help you dance with confidence. Lessons are free. Singles and couples are welcome. No partner necessary. For more information email Michel Breger at Flyer.

Friday, February 16: Valentine's Day Party.
Celebrate Valentine's Day with AIFD with live music by AIO. More details forthcoming.

No partner necessary, we rotate often.
Austin Barn Dancers
Wednesdays, 7:30-10pm, Hancock Rec Center.
Enjoy this American dance form. All dances taught and called. Music provided by LOCO (Local On-Call Orchestra) - an open band, where anyone is welcome to come and play. Contact Dale Rempert at or visit for more information.

Sharon CasteelJoin our teaching director, Sharon Casteel, as she kicks off a 6 week Beginner Folk Dance class at the Dottie Jordan Recreation Center, 2803 Loyala Lane in Austin (map). This free class is the result of Dottie Jordan and other Austin Rec Centers showing an interest in AIFD activities at Hancock Rec Center. Flier.

San Antonio Folk Dance FestivalThe week prior to the San Antonio Folk Dance Festival will be filled with a variety of fun and interesting workshops and events. These include a Set For Spring English Country Dance workshop, a Canary Island Dance Workshop - Celebrating the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Canary Islanders to San Antonio; a Fun Arts Day; and a Hawaiian luau.
