October 2nd - Get ready for the "Big Switch"
New night: Fridays; New hours: 7-9:45
Our first Friday at Hancock Recreation Center will be October 2nd. We're going to use it for AIFD's FREE annual open house! Join us in celebrating the start of our dancing on Fridays at the new time slot of 7:00 to 9:45. This exciting event will be full of fun dance teaching and walkthroughs, so please invite everyone who might be interested to come and discover the joy of folk music and dance! Also, feel free to wear your favorite folk costume or bring something for the snack table!
(Along with the switch to Friday nights, beginning next week the AIFD newsletter distribution will shift to Wednesdays.)

Join AIFD for our last Saturday night at Hancock Recreation Center! After more than 50 years, AIFD bids a Franklin HoustonDee McCandlessfond farewell to Saturday night dances at Hancock as we look forward to continuing our weekly dancing there on Fridays. This will be a rollicking send-off, with time-honored favorites both bittersweet and buoyant, and featuring live dance music from our very own Slavadillo and the TXFD Community Band!** Slavadillo
Franklin Houston will DJ this special evening, assisted by Dee McCandless. NOTE: There will be NO newcomers' session or intermediate teaching this night, so the regular dance program will start at 7:30 rather than 8. Be there at the start to do even more of your favorite dances.
**All folk dance musicians are invited to play in the community band. Contact board@aifd.cc for more information.

Friday, September 25th: AIFD at Russian House!!
Dance FestivalAIFD is partnering with the Russian House Restaurant Bar and Bistro to bring you an International Dance Festival!! Come to Russian House from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. for a night of live music by La Strada and AIO, dance teaching, demo performances, great food, drink, and ambiance. Wear an ethnic dance costume if you have one!

Friday, October 2nd: FREE AIFD Open House!!
Yes .. this is yet another reminder that AIFD is moving to Friday nights at Hancock. Our new hours will be 7-9:45. We will kick off this move with a lively open house. Free admission. Invite your friends.

November 26-29 Texas Camp 2015!
Texas Camp 2015Registration is now open for Texas Camp, 2015. This year's teachers include Mihai David (Romanian) and Campbell Miller (Social Dances). For full details, registration materials, and loads of other fun stuff, check out the Texas International Folk Dancers website.

Wednesdays: Scandinavian Music Jams and Dance!!
The Austin Scandi Folk Music & Dance community holds FREE weekly jam sessions at the back room of Austin Scandi Dancersthe Hancock Rec Center! A themed session runs from 7:30 to about 8:15, followed by a regular jam. Bring your instrument of choice, or come outMisi and dance to the music! Then once a month the Scandi group will devote the entire evening to dancing. All levels welcome!
September 30: Monthly Dance!! Come on out and dance to some lovely Scandinavian tunes! There will often be live music, and the electric Misi Tsurikov will be your DJ for the evening.
