This week at dancing
Greek Night with Kolorash
Enjoy a lively evening of mostly (but not all) Greek dances with live music by Kolorash. Lisa Schneider (violin) and Eric Vormelker (bass, guitar, percussions) are the foundation of this lively folk dance band.
Kolorash
Kolorash is often joined by other musical talents. So come ready to danceIola HallockDee McCandless and yell "OPA!" You are encouraged to wear Greek costumes and bring Greek cuisine. Iola Hallock will DJ this fun evening, assisted by Dee McCandless.
Teaching: Look for numerous walkthroughs of Greek dances beginning at 7:30 p.m. and continuing on throughout the evening.

$5 at the door 17 & older. 16 & under free.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

November 1 - El Dia de Los Muertos.
As a variation this year on the traditional Halloween party, your Board is planning a celebration of El Dia de Los Muertos on November 1. This will include a remembrance of former participants at AIFD who have passed away. We invite you to email comments by September 15 on any of the persons listed on the website (or on a person whose name we have missed) to board@aifd.cc. For more details check out our website.
November 8 - Bulgarika!!
KolorashThe maestros of traditional Bulgarian Music, Bulgarika, return to Austin for another great concert. This is an event not to be missed. Keep an eye out for more details.

Joan Bennett Rumor has it that Joan Bennett will be visiting Austin this week and may be at folk dancing!!! Joan was a driving force in AIFD for many years in the 1980s and 90s, inspiring many of us (now old timers) to stick with dancing and help build a great group. Welcome Joan!!!

Are you CPR/AED certified?
Safety First! The AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is located next to the attendant's desk at Hancock. Even if you are not certified to operate the device, Automated External Defibrillatorjust knowing where it is could save a life. If you are certified to operate the AED please let the Board know. The Board will not keep an official list, but would like to know who to turn to in the event of an emergency. Thanks! (more details here.)

Saturday, Sep 13, 10 am-noon - La Strada!!
Folk dance flash mob opportunity!!! Enjoy the lively tunes of La Strada when they perform at the Farmers’ Market downtown at 4th and Guadalupe. The market runs from 9 am to 1pm. La Strada will play two 45 minute sets starting at 10 am and ending around noon.

Sep 26-27 - Medfest!!
82nd St. Elias Mediterranean Festival, noon-11pm, $5 admission. St Elias Church, 408 E 11th St, Austin.

Nov 7-9 - Fire Ant Frolic Contra Dance Weekend.
At the historic Pioneer Farms in Austin, TX. Attendance is limited to 190, so get cracking on your registration. For registration and all other information, see fireantfrolic.org.

Nov 27-30 - Texas Camp 2014.
Texas Camp 2014 Registration is now open. Don't miss out on one of the longest running and best loved folk dance camps in the country. This year's teachers are Joe Kaloyanides Graziosi - Dances of Greece and Hardeep Singh Sahota - Dances of North India. Registration information (including deadlines).
